I like the consistency in 300's and 200's though. rock on, Elbows.

Yet again...

Everyone's lifted every pound, contorted every position, paced every foot of track, pulsed every butt, jumped every jump, agilitied every agility, and worked every piece of work for last week.

Congrats yall, lets keep it up going into our first games of the term.

So I'm giving in and posting...

Did track workout today...

200:
best- 27 seconds
avg- low 30s

300:
best- 50 seconds
avg- high 50s

400:
best- 60 seconds
avg- around 70/low 70s

Workout felt good, aside from the awful dry air in Leverone...tough workout

Lifted Upper body and legs following workout...sufficiently dead and ready for yoga tonight to teach me to learn to love stretching...probably not, but might help out all my retarded little injuries...no offense

Hi Cobbles, miss your stupid face my buddy. Nora and I have been on the island of Isabela in the Galapagos for almost a week. We have been living with a local family and working at the Center for Breeding Gigantic Tortoises.

We´ve been getting our exercise by resistance-walking in the ocean, working our quads by squatting over toilet seats, enhancing our triceps by shovelling turtle poop, building our biceps by lifting giant tortoises, and tossing on the beach at sunset.

In all serious, it´s difficult to work out here because it gets sooo hot during the day. Usually we walk back and forth from work (4 miles total) and we´ve been running twice and tossing every day - our host family really seems to like "el disco". We´re still getting fat though - our host mother feeds us way too much and we don´t want to be rude by leaving it on our plates.

Still not mising that snow yet :)

Track WO #2

Proud of these, but still looking to improve next tuesday...

400s: 73, 82, 84, 90

300s: 65, 63, 58

200s: 35, 34

umm, so yeah, anne and sam

Heyoo, quick rundown. We´re at 10,000 feet, which changes things a lot. Have been here for four days. or maybe five. I will count while writing this.

AnnE:
Hiked three miles with pack
Played soccer, busted knee, needs a week to repair, then running like a savage
Also still walking about three miles a day around town, and back to home

Sam:
Hiked three miles with pack
Played soccer that night

Played soccer next day, went for 30 minute run and did 10 x 200 and 4 x 400 along with push up and situp pyramid from 1 to 10 and back down

Construction for seven hours, lifted heavy stuff and put it down somewhere else. Ate meat. Did 1 to 10 pushup sit up pyramid again with stretching

Hiked about three miles straight up mountain. Not carrying goat as hoped. Came down, played relaxing volleyball and little bit of soccer.

I will write back with more defined workouts soon. Obviously, stretching before and after came up a lot, but there was some other good ideas too, so I figured I'd pass them on. I just did the first one, and it was stunningly amazing. Thats right, I said it. So without further ado, some muscle soreness tips:

Be hot and cold. A hot-and-cold shower remedy for muscle soreness takes some courage--but Patrice Morency, a sports injury management specialist in Portland, Oregon, who works with Olympic hopefuls, swears by it. Take a hot shower for two minutes. Then turn on the cold and let it run full throttle for 30 seconds. Repeat the process five to ten times. As you switch from hot water to cold, your blood vessels actually open and close, flushing lactic acid--which causes muscle soreness--out of the muscles, says Morency.

Massage away the pain. At the University of Colorado in Boulder, the Buffaloes football team has its own secret weapon for combating muscle soreness: massage. Following games and after the Buffaloes' toughest workouts, key players are given body massages to help move along waste products that are caused by exercise, such as lactic acid. Massage helps push the acid out of the muscle. "That helps recovery time a lot," says Steve Willard, a trainer for the team.

Have a tablet. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories such as Nuprin, Advil, Tylenol and Anacin-3--medications containing ibuprofen or acetaminophencan help calm inflammation and soreness, says Jennifer Stone, head athletic trainer at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The only caveat: "You've got to know whether you're dealing with just soreness or something more serious before you start taking them," says Stone.

Have a carbo drink. One of the University of Miami football team's best-kept secrets for fighting muscle soreness is probably carried by your nearest supermarket: electrolyte/carbohydrate replacement drinks like Gatorade. It all started one season when each player was asked to down a glass of sports drink after practice, after each game and at dinner. (Sports drinks are high in carbohydrates, which the body quickly turns into glycogen to be used as fuel for the muscles.) By the end of the season, Clary noticed something startling: Far fewer players complained of muscle soreness than the year before. "I'm not kidding--we are believers in fluid replacement," he says.

Thanks to www.mothernature.com for that stuff.

COCAINE!

Is what is legal up in Cuzco in Peru. Dermott and I started the first one too fast and were essentially jogging the second. After that, I tried really hard not to overwork myself. If you haven't been doing sprint workouts over the break, I suggest that you start 400 at a fast jog, and then adjust how fast you are going from there. After my first one, I was surprised that i could finish it all. Been trying to keep in shape, but it's been pretty hard. I'm up to ski but it's been raining for 4 of the 7 days we've been up here. Thus far, I've only got in 3 days of skiing and one 2 ish mile run when I couldn't take being inside anymore. No lifting because the rec center has been flooded and I don't want to turn our host's living room into a gym, when everyone is around. I have done a couple 'make ups' while I've been up here, mostly push up and sit ups, so don't worry about making up for me. Hope your winters are nicer to you (though I did get an intense powder day today...finally).

happy new years

somewhat lighter last week+.

Anyway, took most of last weekend off for Christmas.

Monday: Day 1 lift
Tuesday: Went for a run on the treadmill (it was raining here, so dissapointing I'd rather have snow)
Wednesday: Day 2 lift
Thursday: Another run on the treadmill (rain again)
Friday: Day 3 lift
Today: shoveled the light snow from the driveway.

Anyway, vacation's been somewhat dissapointing on some of the ultimate front, as I haven't been able to throw with anyone and the roads have been icy making it difficult to run, and snow has dissapeared. After we ordered, the waitress asked us if we would like free mimosa's complementary with our breakfast. Our entire table looked like we wanted to die at the thought of one more drink...

That said, while I feel like crap now, I've been working my butt off this break. A couple good friends of mine also play ultimate in college, and we've been doing good throwing/marking kind of drills about every other day, with plyos and sprints as well. I've also been hitting the gym on most every day that it's not nice enough to throw and run outside, and I've done a few cycles of the lifting workouts already. Also some pickup basketball and football, and while I can jump higher than I used to be able to thanks to being in better shape, I seem to have completely and utterly forgotten how to shoot a basketball. The last thing I've been doing is pushups and situps either before bed or when I wake up every day. I'm not sure how long I'll keep it up when I get back to school, but for now, I haven't missed a day yet. That said, the thought of doing crunches right now makes me sick. Now, time for a 4-5 hour nap.

heyoooooo

Wow, so a new game called "Kaboti" I feel like it would be really fun in the snow. You have a mid-line that extends forever, and a team on either side. The teams take turns sending one person over across the line, and they can fake who they're going to send, but eventually one person just has to run across. They take a deep breath and start yelling "Kaboti, Kaboti, Kaboti" and try to tag as many people as possible in one breath and get back to their side. If he's successful, those people are out, and he stays in on his team. If the team can stop him from getting back before the breath runs out via tackling him or holding him, then he is out. So booyeah.

Been playing that and pickup ultimate with moho every day, and some older college guys. Been running and playing squash pretty much daily as well. I did work out a little, but not enough. Even worse is that one of the guys I ran/did plyos with was a triple jumper on the track team and he made me feel ridiculously slow. blah.

From talking about college ultimate, my dad has been convinced to get into the sport some more, and is playing a winter league. Why does this matter? Because he assigned me the task of getting him into shape, which means I will hopefully be running a lot and maybe have a partner for the lifting workouts over the next few weeks. Did that. Bike seemed set on *boostyourconfidence* level, as it told me I was doing 20-22 miles an hour easily (and on the maximal intensity setting). Not sure about that, but hey I broke a sweat so ok.
Friday: Snowed in--we got about a foot of snow during the day.So nothing to show for it, except it allows....
Saturday: took advantage of the new snow and went xc skiing in the morning, did day 3 in the afternoon.
Sunday: Went and biked again, managed to set the bike to harder settings, got in a nice workout without the confidence boost. Also did 50 crunches/pushups.
Monday: Went xc skiing again, and then did day 1.
Today: Went and did some biking, some plyo step ups, 50 crunches/pushups, broke a sweat.
yeah

Home Again

Not a whole lot of exercise this week. Learned the plyos the team will be doing this winter with Liz last Sunday, then went for a cold miserable (in shorts) run around Rip Road and didn't stretch enough. Tossed some at Leverone but knee hurt too much to play boot. Packed/lifted boxes/ran all over the place to say goodbyes on Monday. Shoveled a LOT of snow on Friday. Went nordic skiing for an hourish on Saturday - the conditions were great. Ran into my old ski coach which was cool. Went for a long run (lesson learned, this time I wore pants) with my sister today, did a little bit of ab stuff afterwards. This is the second or third time lately that my left PCL has been acting up after about 3 miles of running....not sure why or what I'm going to do about it.

drawing lines

it looks like I need to go back to kindergarten. Went home Tuesday, and it turns out there was a special election that was supposed to be close so I got to go and vote. First time I actually got to cast my vote on an election day (I've done absentee), and I end up making this big blob instead of drawing a nice neat line. Looks like I need to back to elementary school drawing.

Ultimate wise, I'm psyched for training and such this winter.
What with finals, I mostly studied and played Schtick in Leverone.
I got in a day one lift on Monday, and did a modified day 2 (didn't have all the same equipment available).

Definitely enjoying schtick, although my lack of a good push pass and blade hurts here, but the whole running don't get tagged thing I have a handle on. In particular I like the way if forces the offense to try and create space to run into.

Also, did some work on breakthrows, marks and dump drills. All of these are so much easier indoors where it's warmer.

Also I'm looking for suggestions of any activity to do on non-lift days that I can do by myself, and isn't going for long runs (which I don't like at all). Have been playing a bunch this week, really exciting since everybody is figuring out strategy together, and it is still fairly unknown. Really fun. Lifting in between.

Recent thoughts about ultimate is that we should work to abolish the concept of positions. All players on the field have the same rules applying to them. This is unlike baseball, volleyball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, and most of the other sports where positions are defined because there are special qualities to each designated player on the field. In ultimate, however you are completely free of that. Additionally, the role of positions in other sports is created mostly to anticipate the transition of offense to defense. In soccer, you have defenders in anticipation of an offensive turnover and the necessity of having people back to defend. In the case of ultimate, however, you do not have this, as the team is designed to play offense completely at one time, and defense otherwise. There is no half-and-half, and turnovers are usually slower than in other sports, but when they are immediate on interceptions, defense is still a matter of being on your man rather than covering the space near your goal.

The advantage of abolishing the idea of positions in ultimate I think is this. The defense to a large degree depends on the offense having mental constructs and blocks about their roles as players. Defenses collapse when cutters are willing to re-ignite offenses and throw upfield, or when handlers cut while a new dump fills in. Normally, however, they play with extra defenders on the field which are caused by the offense placing more rules on themselves than are stated in the game. Truly ultimate is a game of ingenuity and probability, and the methods in which you can manipulate a disc or your defender are not fully figured out. Inactivity in the mind on the field will lead to inactivity in the body, and when you are cutting with fakes, it is truly a battle of creativity and reading tells rather than an all-out battle of physicality.

In order to run plinko-style offenses, it is necessary to expand people's thoughts about the roles they themselves have on the field. Flow is the most desired word in ultimate, and it relies on maximum activity in the brain, and creativity in anticipation and participation. This can be practiced in smaller games where roles are mixed up, or other games which allow you to understand new concepts about ultimate. The power of these games' teach goes way beyond their simple ability to entertain.

Shtick, for example, teaches coordination of offenses and communication between players. In ultimate it is very possible for the offense to be completely dictated by one person, but in shtick, there must be a fluid interaction of players to score due to the tagging rule which lowers the offensive ability to dictate of a single person.

Boot teaches players to think simultaneously about the multiple threats on a field. Often in ultimate, people view threats by how many yards their offender can gain by the cut, and how to minimize that versus probability of them catching it. In boot, you have an obvious secondary threat in all situations, which is to score on the opposite boot than the one you are currently defending. This begins to expand defenders' minds to other threat elements besides yardage such as break-side throws, having an un-covered disc, centering the disc, and others which can't be directly extrapolated from boot but are related to the concept of simultaneous threat which is made more obious in boot.

The disadvantages of the system of a breakdown of positions is the initial loss in the efficiency of communication. If somehow all minds were linked on a field, and there was perfect communication, our team would be unstoppable by any college team in this nation. However, we must make up for the fact that wholly efficient communication is never possible, and so we have to live with the fact that if we want somebody to trade out at the dump, they won't always come, and if we want to do something tricky, the other person might now always pick up on it.

I believe that the gradual decline in thoughts about position roles will help plinko-styled offenses of quick flow, even if significant yardage is not gained. The reasons I think plinko-style offenses are the best are as follows. In ultimate, defenders are often only looking at the offensive man who they are covering, and not the disc. They make up for this by occasional glances back to the disc relying on the fact that that vertice of the triangle does not move nearly as much as the one of his cutter or the one of the cutter's desired path. In plinko-style offenses, all defenders in the stack become disadvantaged by the simple movement of the disc, be it vertical or horizontal on the field. It makes the defenders edgy and unable to rely on the normal breaks of ultimate such as waiting in the stack. I think this is why the pain-train's ho-stack has worked well, because the cutter's roles as made more even in the stack, while still the off-side cutter's role is not being maximized. Plinko offenses also work well due to the decrease in stress by the offense based on the low stall count. With every second that ticks by in the stall count, the thrower's stress level rises as well as cutters and the dump who can hear it, and the ability to execute fundamentals goes down by the second. This allows the defense to dictate the game as when the count gets high it dictates a throw, whereas in plinko offenses the offense tells the defender when he is going to throw. He is making the defenders transition, and the rapid rate of movement leads to a greater confusion in the stack.

In general, I think the meaning of all of this is that we must promote dynamic thinking about ultimate in practice. Handlers should play cutter positions and visa versa. New games with undeveloped strategy should be played, and new concepts should be explored. It is all a game of communication and probability, and you want to decrease their ability to communicate and increase your probability of successful offenses. In stagnant offenses with strict mental positioning, you have increased their ability to communicate by their general knowledge of the situation and how to interact without added threats of the possibility of unfamiliar threats to occur. Mental awareness is key in ultimate, and you must create players that understand all roles in order to execute a dynamic offense.

Ed Sucks

My little bro, Ed Cahill, continues to beat me in every single sport competition. stupid brother.

Sunday: Doubles tennis w/ bros and dad. was on the loosing team both times
Monday: Moved a shitton of fencing material in and out of a car.
Tuesday: Lifted, lifted more fencing stuff in and out of car, started breaking fence.
Wed: Continued fencebreaking, lifted more fencing material in and out of car. Also, lifted on monday, and did some lunges over break.

Also, there's definitely something special about eating pie directly out of the plate it was cooked in.

mmmm

Pickup Lines

Everybody seemed to get their mack on this week. Good job guys, keep up the good work! No makeups for the A guys, and good job in the gym.

Props to Tre, possibly in the form of crutches, for his acrobatic mishap. Give him a cupcake if you see him. Or me.

Be careful of the exercises all, a lot of them can be hazardous especially if you are already injured. There are many substitute lifts that you can do if you are uncomfortable with the ones you're doing. Seigs has made them available on the dartmouth ultimate website. The difference in the other program listed is that it is less weights for a longer time, which is good for any injured lifters, but really, take it easy and bust hard. GREAT JOB!

On a side note, you must read these. I'm going to build a fence in my backyard. 247 feetsies. Tear down the old one, put up a new one, all before Xmas break ends. really stoked about it. My bro and I took all day today buying two tons worth of wood and an extra ton of concrete. Lots of picking things up and putting things down. It's not a proper ultimate workout, but I'm looking to go for a run tomorrow to balance me out. maybe lift a little but later on...we'll see...might not have time.

Anyway, i hope everyone is doing well, and DON"T FORGET TO LIFT!!!!

TGFTGF & Lil' Brudder

Thank Goodness For ThanksGiving Feasts!

So right now I'm chilling at home with lukewarm 70 degree weather, chilling out with my bros. I just barely snuck under the wire for the second lifting this week, and I'm sorry I didn't blitz out earlier, but i finally got my home internet working.

thus far, I'm 2-1 for home basketball game (games to 11, 1's and 2's). At this point, I believe it's related to weather I'm playing against my little bro or not (that is, if I'm playing with him, I win, if I play against him, I lose).

last game was a 2 point loss, 9-11, 1v.1 against my little bro. heartbreaking.

Speaking of which, my little bro is interested in joining the flying elbows for a couple of weeks (at least until christmas break ends, maybe a little more). He's trying to stay in shape before he goes to middlebury in febuary, and then try out for the lax team there. let me know what you guys think, and maybe i'll send him a blogger invite.

chimpo

p.s. if you want to know what he looks like, think of a buffer, much shorter version of me. let me know what you all think...

mmm laziness

So first let me mention that Thanksgiving is great. I had forgotten that it was possible to sleep until 11, I've been staying in my pajamas until late into the afternoon, and eating apple pie for breakfast. Life is great. Well, maybe not for my disintegrating muscles.

To backtrack: Frozen was a good time. I played with the 08s all day Saturday and it was really neat to see how far we had come in a year. I was definitely having trouble readjusting to playing coed again, and often found myself either not cutting or cutting off other peoples' cuts. I didn't touch the disc very much, but on the other hand, I didn't turn the disc very much. I didn't keep track of stats though. During the Skidmore game, I wanted to make an in cut and must have done a poor job of juking on a tall girl who happened to have no boobs and an iron sternum, and managed to smash my nose on her chest. I wanted to call and injury but decided it was stupid so I waited until blood was flowing down my face and hands to run to the EMT on duty. I bled for a nice 35 minutes or so covering a towel, and feeling pretty tough. It also had the side benefit of clearing my clogged sinuses. Anyway, I'd lost a lot of blood, so I watched our fourth game and third win of the day from the sidelines.

Sunday was interesting. It took a lot of umph to get out to the fields early to play, only to find that "Team America Fuck Yeah" thought they had a bye and didn't show up. However, Lydia being the sweet and intelligent woman that she is decided that the 08s should forfeit to avoid trouble. This was really too bad though, since we had a full team there ready to play. I spent a lot of time tossing before the announcement was made, and once it was, Lindsey and I went over to the consolation pool to play with Team Flake. This was a blast. The game was much more low key and I had a great time playing against a friend of mine from high school. It was also wonderful to handle in a coed zone again (brought me back to summertime). My favorite point we worked it up for about 10 minutes and it ended up getting dropped in the end zone which didn't bother me because it was so great to work it up for so long. I played the next game with the 08s against Pov's team and had a pretty good time even though their women were quite good and tough to defend/get open on. Near the end of that game, Sam kidnapped me again to play with Flake - this time we were playing savage until Team Sketch finished their game after our half time. This was a really fun game too, against the also savage UMass. I think we were tied at the end and there was a universe point - I laid out for a pass right next to the end zone, and even though I caught it, there was a flash of yellow, and then everything in the world on the left became tinted green for about 5 minutes. Translation: I caught the disc laying out but hit my head and got a minor concussion. We did win the game though.

So, I took the last week pretty easy. Went out to practice and played in the drills and tossed a lot, but no scrimmaging. I also had to watch Classwars from the sidelines. I relearned the lifting routine on Monday (I can never put the names on paper with the physical actions) and got some throwing pointers from Shmi.

I've been horifically lazy this past week, but if the roads aren't too icy, I might go running today. I'm starting to think about how I'm going to stay in shape this winter, and what Nora and I can do while we're in Ecuador to keep up with the team. It's difficult to know what we'll have access too and how we'll be able to exercise, so we might just have to play it by ear.

Add Nick Brown

Add Nick Uptown never frown upside down Bow Bow-n big crown Nick Brown to all of that business. All held well, playing until dark with Emmy practicing her sweet/nasty throws off to the side wish schmigol.

W, R, Ch, Cr, Co, Ry, Coo, Da, and probably some more headed over to lifting.
Played basketball.
Played Racquetball.
And RAGE-qetball, new game. incredible.
And gorged on burritos and Rohre's generous DBA.

YAY for Monday! The highlight of my weekend by far was my layout Callahan against NYU alums (full disclosure: what happened was that I saw where the break throw was going, ran to get the D, and then realized that the disc was floating towards their endzone, so I laid out just over their endline for to grab the disc just off the ground for the score. The fortuitous unintentional self-mack was clutch). After that managed to stay reasonably involved on O, and play ok D for awhile. Had another 2 or so D's on the day, and ended up with on the order of 4 turns (a couple drops and couple bad decisions/really poor execution). Defensively, I realized how much I need to work on D'ing up out cuts as I felt like I got beat down the line too often by my man. The combination of beautiful weather and better cutters/throwers, resulted in lots of good hucks going up (something noticeably absent from practice), and I didn't feel like I played as well as I could have against them. Today, didn't really play well, had several egregious drops, and limited offensive contributions.

Practice for the last week has been somewhat more frustrating, Monday and Wednesday both became swilltimate (largely due to the weather), which is frustrating.
Did manage to lift on Tuesday with Dave, and other than that spent lots of time studying.

yearp, hope that the nice weather sticks around for awhile.

Overdue

Hmmm, I've been slacking on this blogging business. Where to start? I skipped Yale Cup because I was in desperate need of a weekend off after spending every other weekend off campus playing ultimate in the pouring rain. It was good to sleep in.

I've been going to practice regularly but not exercising much outside of practice - with the exception of running to practice. Now that it gets dark so early, and we spend so much time discussing things and tossing, I feel like I'm not getting enough exercise so I guess I'll need to do something about that.

In practicing I've been trying to work a lot on having flexibility with my throws....altering the speed (ie more than just a bullet forehand and a floppy forehand) and improving the accuracy of my loopies and developing a hammer. This, of course, is slow painful progress. My cuts are getting a little sloppy and sometimes I find myself standing in the middle of a mob and feeling like any move I make will be called a pick. I've started handling less, which is both good and bad. It's bad because the anxiety of having the disc in my hand and worrying about turning it is slowly starting to creep back - I worked hard on eliminating this this past summer so I'm irritated that it's coming back. On the flip side, I'm getting much more exercise by playing in the stack.

Brown went alright. I love having Rohre on the team because I can cut anywhere on the field and receive the disc. I played pretty sluggishly in the first game against Harvard....it seemed to take my muscles a while to warm up and on the points that I was supposed to be handling, I made a mess. By the second game, I felt much more comfortable. Didn't play especially strong offense, but played a lot of defense. As the sidelines kindly pointed out to me, I need to start catching my Ds and stop assuming that if I hang onto them I'll just throw them away. The third game against Cornell is a little blurry in my mind, but those girls are big and have good break throws and are very comfortable playing with each other....there was one girl that kept matching up against me which I liked because I thought we were a good match - she wouldn't let me cheat, and she kept me on my toes. Sundays' games were both pretty good - I played much stronger offense these games and got better at recognizing how to take advantage of the cut I was given and when I was poached.

I'm definitely noticing a lot about attitude. I'm finding that I play much better when I get fired up/heated, but I need to remember to keep this fired up attitude friendly and not yell too much. I also need to get the handling "mental block" out of my system. My attitude has been worsening at practice also....maybe a little time off will help remedy this, or maybe playing coed for the weekend will help.

I haven't been running to practice this week - in the game against MIT there was a three man collision which involved me and some body parts hitting by bad knee (the one I almost tore my PCL in senior fall) so it's achy and swollen and I don't want to push it. I'm also starting to get sick and could probably benefit from a day or two off.

lots o' stuff

Yeah, so lots of ultimate in the last two weeks...

starting with Yale Cup.

Played well at Yale. Had a callahan (woohoo) and a couple point blocks on D, and was around the disc a lot on O. The consistency in my throws wasn't where I wanted it, but I stayed very involved in the O. The high point was probably the comeback against Yale-B, from down 6-3 capped to 7 to win it. Twas very exciting, as I definitely felt like we all lifted it up a notch at the end.

Played very poorly at the beginning of practice on monday last week, but picked it up in the second half with a couple D's, lifted on Tuesday with Cooch and Dave. Played Boot for a while on Wednesday since there was no practice, and tossed for a while on Thursday. Also had two midterms which sucked royally. Friday at practice I got to work on throwing hucks a lot (which ended up being very useful).

This weekend I went to Middlebury. I personally didn't play that well, I was too inconsisten and made some poor decisions. Played one game with a bunch of Middlebury guys and a few Dartmouth ones (WUFO bailed), which was a lot of fun. Then went back to Dartmouth to handle and proceeded to throw a ridiculous number of hucks in a very windy game against UVM. We ran a huck/glorified punt and Z for most of the game, so I got to air it out a lot. Completed a few hucks, and threw a bunch away. Highlight was probably a few very pretty hucks, including one that I threw around a no-huck mark for the score. Unfortunately, I had trouble with the short game, and missed a couple D's, and my quad ended up hurting so I sat out a lot of the last game against the combo team.

Tossed on the green before practice today, and then had short practice (damn elimination of DST). Unhappy with my O play today, had a couple drops and rushed throws early although I settled down. Played much better on D though, went up to get a D on Yi on an out cut, and had a couple D's in the cup.

wow, lots of stuff, I probably should post more often and shorter.

psychics

Taking a break from the last problem that I can't quite get...

This last week+ has been a very stressful and frustrating week so I'm looking forward to running around at Yale.

Anyway, I lifted today (Day 2ish), then tossed with Shmi, before going back to work. Had dinner with AnnE, learned about the history FSP before going back to work.

Practice has been reasonable this week, although I'm having to adjust to handling more and cutting less. I was also disturbed to discover that I am essentially wearing a hole in the ball of my foot after practice on Wednesday. I'm hoping that it was an isolated occurence as opposed to a sign that my cleats are killing my feet.

Slightly disappointed that I haven't had a chance to enjoy Homecoming yet, but hopefully that'll change tomorrow.

yep.

peaced that shit

dropped out of rush last week, and thus made my glorious return to practice. was at purple this weekend, where i got to huck a lot, which was nice. defense still needs work though, but it always does.
was at practice yesterday, will be for the rest of the week. looks like i'm going to yale this weekend, so that's about it. hopefully doing crunches tonight before going to bed.

also, tried to go on a bike ride with my super sweet trippee, allison, last week and my bike had a flat tire. flat tire! so lame.

on that note, i don't really have anthing funny and/or original to say. have a good week everyone.

Woah...

This is my first time at the blog--it's totally sweet. Our first game in the torrential downpour was ridiculous - it didn't even look like ultimate frisbee. We got stomped on by Brute Squad (no surprise) - but no one could complete passes and both teams were dropping and turning it all over the place. I'm shocked that the tournament wasn't cancelled. Round 2 we upset X Factor, a team of Boston Women who beat us at Sectionals a few weeks ago. This time, we showed them who was boss and beat them by a pretty substantial margin. Next we had a bye. Since we were in the small pool, this left us second seed in our pool. In the crossover game, we played Vassar and stomped on them which was also a blast. I was so fired up for that last game (even our second game) and had so much fun playing. Even the Brute Squad game was fun because all I needed to focus on was defense. AND - the most exciting news of the day - was my first lay out! On the 12thish point of the Vassar game I had dropped the disc a couple times near the end zone and it came at me again and I just thought to myself "MINE!!" and the next thing I knew I was on the ground in the grass, smiling. My defender was standing over me and I looked up at her and was like, "hey, that was my first layout!" and then got up and threw the score. Guess I might have to lay out more often. My other glory moment was earlier in the game when marking one of the primary handlers. I was up to "stall ten STALL!" when she pointed out to me that I had forgotten eight (which was true). Counting is hard, okay? But of all numbers, I probably shouldn't forget my own number. I told her she was right, that sorry, counting was difficult for me, and I came back in on seven.

Our Saturday success was enough to bring us to Day II, although I returned to Dartmouth last night. They played Ambush this morning, and I have not yet heard the results. Yup, it was a great weekend of ultimate.

rush

makes me hate my life. sweet.

went running yesterday since i took the day off from practice. will go tomorrow if have time...

It's raining

it's pouring
the old man is snoring

and Bariel and I did day 2 today.

Crouton

Likes to eat salad.
